The good news is that the Jackie Chan produced version of Around the World in 80 Days is only two-thirds as long as the 1956 classic. The bad news is that it is still horribly dull.
Chan plays Passportout, a reluctant assistant to Steve Coogan’s crazed inventor, Phileas Fogg who accepts a challenge to navigate the globe in 80 days or never invent again.
The most fun is found in the terrific cameos from Luke and Owen Wilson as the Wright Brothers and Arnold Schwargenegger, a sultan with six wives who wants to make romantic interest, Cecile De France wife number seven to fill his empty Tuesday slot.
Other than that, Aroundthe World in 80 Days is your basic Jackie Chan comedy. To Chan’s credit, he does do much better stunts in this film than in The Medallion and The Tuxedo. But better is not necessarily inventive.
With most Chan films the out takes during the ending credits are often the best parts, but alas nothing here. Perhaps this was just a paycheck for Chan
If you are not under 14 or a huge Jackie Chan fan you may want to skip this one.
