This is not a well made film. The sound is hollow, scenes jump around and it's silly in spots. It does however tell a story -- about the damage of drugs and what the sellers of drugs and what the sellers of drugs do to a society and individuals in it.
Laurence Fishburne is a cop because he wants to correct some of the action that caused his father to be shot to death while he watched. His father was a junkie who lost his life while robbing a package store. He is placed under deep cover and becomes a member of the society he is pledged to destroy. Jeff Goldblum plays Attorney David Jason who is far into the drug traffic game. Fishburne is most effective when he is the voice-over similar to a 40s detective describing his case.
Despite its limitations, Deep Cover has a message worth listening to.
