Ferngully, an animated feature, is a fairy tale with an ecology message based on the book by Australian author Diana Young. The secret, isolated world is filled with interesting, happy creatures who have no understanding of the impending danger of a large logging project which is headed toward Ferngully, destroying the forest in its path.
Crysta (voice of Samantha Mathis), a young woman who flies like Tinker Bell, with her friend Pips (voice of Christian Slater) and Zak (voice of Jonathan Ward) a human shrunk to the size of Crysta and Pips, join forces to fight the deadly machine and Hexxus, a creature that rises from smoke and oil spent from the logging machine.
There is little to the story. The little creatures fight the monsters and guess who wins? Aside from a simple story, the color, light and background of a deep tropical rain forest fill the screen with beauty and clever acton. Batty (voice of Robin Williams) provides a comic character who continually crashes into trees and bushes as he spills out wisecracks that are typical of Williams.
Kids will love watching this and parents will enjoy watching the kids.
