This remake of the 1943 Roddy McDowell film My Friend Flicka stars Alison Lohman as Katy, a teenager who loves a wild mustang.
Katy lives with her parents and brother on a Wyoming ranch. She's back from boarding school and dad, played credibly by country/western singer Tim Mcgraw, wants her to leave and start her future in the big city. His head-strong daughter, however, is happy to stay at home to be with her beloved horse.
Everyone tells Katy that the horse she found in the wild can't be tamed, but the stubborn teen can't see past the love she has for the horse, even if it means a bumpy homelife with dad and her mom, played by Maria Bello, acting as peacemaker.
The scenery is spectacular and the country-pop soundtrack is upbeat which is great for the adult audience. For kids, the horses are enjoyable, but the film is slow moving and very talky.
