In this
new romantic comedy from Britain, we follow a group of eight friends as
they race to arrive "vaguely on time" to four lovely weddings. Specifically,
the story revolves around Charles - a witty, attractive chap who, despite
many romantic entanglements, has not found real love. At wedding
number one, Charles, played wonderfully by Hugh Grant, sets eyes on Carrie,
played by Andie McDowell, and he begins to learn the strong emotions of
the heart.
This film is absolutely
hilarious at times. Especially noteworthy is Rowan Atkinson as Father
Gerald, the nervous young priest presiding over wedding number two.
But, the film's comedic aspect does not overwhelm the subtler theme of
men and women celebrating the nuptuals of their friends and simultaneously
searching within and wondering where their own hearts will lead them.
