Joyful Noise, brings a joyful sound track to an otherwise mundane, predictable battle of the gospel singers in a nationwide competition.
Dolly Parton and Queen Latifiah begin like the Hatfield's & McCoy's each striving to lead the chorus. Parton with the money to contribute to the church and Latifiah with the spirit and history of the church n her heart. Courtney B. Vance is the preacher who chooses Latifiah. The silly competition slowly disappears and the personal problems of each of the leading stars are worked out over time as each one works to bring in the big prize which is a national championship.
The kids who are related to the two stars have problems either with an attention deficit syndrome or their interest in a person of the opposite sex in the other family, but not quite as deep as Romeo and Juliet. As the script moves on we know this is a story that belongs on the Lifetime TV channel not on the big screen.
The more of the film we see we can't help but wonder, where is Whoopi Goldberg when we need her.
