John Cameron Mitchell's latest after Hedwig and the Angry Inch explicitly unleashes some auto-fellation at the outset, as a part of a sexual onslaught used to project character peculiarity.

Shortbus has an enthusiasm to it from performers like Sook-Yin Lee and Paul Dawson in roles trying to reach a certain type of gratification. Perhaps a more erotic cousin of Rent, the titular club setting in New York City features outrageous figures like entertainer Justin Bond and a dominatrix doing much improvisation that proves much less revelatory and moving than Hedwig.
